Drain Tile
This was actually a project that spanned many years and is not well documented by pictures.
Originally, we put up gutters and a drain for the washing machine, knowing that later we would bury the lines
We sloped the grade away from the house to keep water from shedding into the basement, then laid down durable sheets of plastic board, covered that with gravel, then 6 inches of top soil. At the base of the sheets, we dug a trench and installed drain tile, all sloping to the SW corner of the house. (not pictured)
The result: the basement is dry as a bone, even during all the flooding we've had this spring (2010).
