Crawl space under the kitchen - The Excavation Is Complete
And the house is covered in dust with mud all over the floors. Our two main entrances are inaccessible. The living room is now a makeshift kitchen area.

This is the back of the kitchen that connects with the rest of the house. We considered digging a bit further to make a full size addition to the basement, but thought better of it. We don't want to compromise the stability of the kitchen foundation.
Also note the remains of the original brick cistern. It was two layers thick with concrete between the layers of brick and inside. We beat the wall with a sledgehammer and carried out the rubble in a wheelbarrow (several trips, of course).
Just try getting out that door now.
