And, underneath, another layer of linoleum and of course <gasp> hardwood floors
We removed all the flooring in order to dig out the crawl space. For some reason, a previous owner filled the crawl space with dirt to the point where it is impossible to crawl in to work on utilities.
Here are the joists that are balanced on shims.
Then the digging began. We dug from 2 inches deep, down to about 4 feet deep...with shovels
